Il Caminetto, nestled conveniently on 114 Pascoe Vale Road in Moonee Ponds, offers an inviting and authentic Italian dining experience that is as rich in tradition as it is in flavor. This charming Italian restaurant stands out for its dedication to high-quality, thoughtfully crafted dishes that showcase both classic and innovative Italian cuisine.
From the moment you arrive, Il Caminetto exudes warmth—both in its cozy interior and the genuine hospitality of its staff. Diners can choose to bask in the intimate indoor ambiance, perfect for a romantic date night, or enjoy the lively “inside beer garden,” a family-friendly space where children and adults alike can unwind.
The menu is a celebration of Italian culinary artistry, with options that cater to diverse dietary needs including vegan and gluten-free choices, ensuring no guest feels left out. Starters like the Focaccia—a garlic and herb confit bread, or the Crocchette "Col Cavolo", cauliflower and cheese croquettes served with a vibrant capsicum pesto—set the tone for a meal that is both comforting and elevated.
Signature pasta dishes such as the Ravioli del Plin—pillowy homemade parcels filled with ricotta, zucchini, and semi-dried tomato—delicately balanced with parmesan milk and marinated asparagus, deliver a wonderful harmony of flavors that lingers on the palate. The Spaghetti al Nero e Gamberi, featuring black squid ink pasta paired with bisque-rich prawns and a kick of chilli, is a visual and gustatory feast that calls for slow, appreciative savoring.
Pizza lovers are in for an absolute treat here. Many guests laud the pizzas as “phenomenal,” with the Umbria pizza hailed as among the finest in Australia. Each pizza is skillfully prepared with care and authenticity, from the traditional Margherita to the more adventurous Capricciosa and Hawaiian variations, all boasting perfectly blistered crusts and a symphony of fresh, high-quality toppings.
The restaurant’s commitment to an inclusive menu means even vegan diners with severe allergies can indulge confidently—the vegan lasagne, in particular, emerges as a crowd favorite among those who seek both flavor and peace of mind. This thoughtful approach has not gone unnoticed, creating loyal patrons who return again and again.
Beyond dining, Il Caminetto offers engaging experiences such as pizza masterclasses, where guests can immerse themselves in the art of pizza making—from kneading the dough to pulling a golden pie from the oven. This hands-on, interactive adventure adds a unique dimension to the restaurant, blending education with pure enjoyment.
While some reviews mention that desserts like tiramisu could be improved, the overall sentiment underscores a consistently delightful and authentic Italian experience, complemented by attentive, friendly service and a buzzing atmosphere. Whether you're popping in for a casual lunch or settling in for a special evening, Il Caminetto delivers a genuine taste of Italy in the heart of Moonee Ponds.

Pizza is phenomenal here, mains and pasta were okay. You’d expect better quality considering the price. Overall very good restaurant to eat, the Umbria pizza was one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had in Australia. Absolutely fantastic .

Absolutely phenomenal. This is the perfect spot for a high quality, authentic meal locally. The non vegan and vegan menu are both amazing. I am vegan with a severe dairy allergy, so having so many options on the menu is a treat! We have yet to be disappointed, but the lasagne is definitely a favourite. Recommend sitting inside for a date night, outside in the "inside beer garden" if you have kids or are a larger group and out the front/street for fresh air and privacy, but only if you dont mind the highway noise. Expensive but worth it, the portions are big and would do well as share plates if you like to dine this way. I bring everyone here, it's my go-to, to impress. Guaranteed a good meal and great service.

I joined a pizza masterclass and it was such an extraordinary experience! It was my very first time making pizza completely by hand, from kneading the dough to adding toppings and sliding it into the oven. I never thought I could turn simple ingredients into something so real, fresh, and eatable. The process was super fun and hands-on, and I enjoyed learning each step while feeling like a true chef for the day. The best part was tasting the final result—it turned out surprisingly delicious and satisfying. Highly recommend this class for anyone who loves food and new experiences!

Il Caminetto in Moonee Ponds is a gem. It's conveniently located along Pascoe Vale Road, and we found plenty of street parking on Bent Street (we went on a Sunday night). We didn’t have a booking, but we were lucky enough to be seated straight away. The place was quite busy, which speaks to its popularity. Service was fantastic: fast, efficient, and friendly. We started with drinks: an Aperol Spritz and their weekly special cocktail, the Gin Garden. Both were excellent and set the tone for the evening. For food, we shared the arancini and warm burrata to start (the burrata was especially memorable, just melting in your mouth). For mains, we had the wood-fired Umbra pizza, which had a beautifully fluffy dough and a well-balanced truffle flavour, and the tagliatelle alla boscaiola, which was easily one of the best textured homemade pastas we’ve tried. We finished off with their tiramisu, which was perfectly creamy with a great balance of flavours. Every dish was a standout. If you're after a delicious and authentic Italian dining experience in the area, Il Caminetto is a must-visit.

Lovely local Italian place in Moonee Ponds. Second time we have been here but on this occasion was lunch. My partner and I were the first customers/only customers at the time of opening for lunch service. The place has a warm feel and so are the staff. Greeted with a smile and taken to our seats with menu's in hand. The food was quickly served and everything was delicious. Personal favourite was the pizza. I definitely would recommend anyone to come here and try the outstanding food and service. We will be back again!

This restaurant looks small from outside but actually quite spacious inside. Pizza, seafood linguine, and burrata were really nice. Arancini wasn’t flavourful and tiramisu was ordinary, too much finger biscuits not enough mascarpone cream. Would love to come back to try more different pizzas.

Pizza was perfection and I absolutely loved the gnocchi. The calamari for me was not a standout and the Nutella pizza needed some berries to cut through all the yummy chocolate but overall a very authentic experience. The atmosphere was buzzing and I was impressed by their inclusive catering of all dietary requirements
